Mohamed Badr

Senior Advisor on Africa Strategic Engagement , WFP Egypt

Mohamed Badr joined the World Food Program on December 1, 2018 as Senior Advisor, African Union Strategic Engagement – Strategic Coordinator and Support Division. Prior to his assignment, he was sworn in as Governor of Luxor between February 7, 2015 till August 30, 2018. In his capacity as Luxor Governor, Badr had a number of significant achievements out of which the Gas Connection between the East and the West Banks; the development of more than 226 schools; launching projects in renewable energy; reviving waste management projects; and several initiatives for citizens with special needs. He also formed a committee for prohibiting illegal acquisition of agriculture lands and launched projects and initiatives for infrastructure and road management. Under his governorship, Luxor hosted the 5th World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Global Summit on 1-2 November 2016 and has been nominated as the Capital of Tourism.

Prior being appointed as Governor of Luxor, Badr was the First Assistant to the Secretary General of the Cabinet of Ministers then the Supervisor of the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC).

Badr started his career back in 1994 where he worked for the relevant Ministries and government bodies like the Ministry of Information and the Capital Market Authority (CMA) as well as the Ministry of Tourism.

His research interests include organization development, Public Private Partnership, E-Business and E-Government, human development and modernization, privatization, economic cooperation, competitiveness, globalization investment, international trade, export development, financial markets and banking sector.

Badr is an Egyptian national, he holds a BSc. in Economic and Political Sciences from Cairo University, a master’s Degree in International Business Administration from Maastricht University, the Netherlands.
